Where have all the voracious readers of NG gone? (cue old van halen song)

Got a marine mechanic in FL as a race buddy.. couldn't tell from talking to him, but he read damn near as many as you. Ate the modern classics as well as allah Halo. Dunno why I mentioned it, maybe I have faith

I dunno but some of the guys in the reading challenge thread read way more than me

@Malachy post muh trap card https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Voyager_Conspiracy
Meh, I'm just jealous damn my bad eyes and singular wit/focus... also peeved at tight bindings

I'm rly fucked now; made an account at a conservative libertarian/financial site, where the comments are phenomenal... still appreciate the to/fro of the NG BBS but the IRL stakes are higher, warrant attention etc

Careful. Lots of grifters in those communities.

NG has been my online home for so long I don't think I'll ever find a replacement.

@Malachy ya could be said.. on both fronts, though zerohedge (fight club reference to mortality) certainly has: old users, mostly informed, successful, mostly anti-authoritarian capitalists/conservative libertarians (who know that party's just as fucked as the other 2 lol)

Plenty of grifters right here, though I get the sense it's only opportunistic, not predatory/par for the course

I’m not sure what style you’re into, but a book series I really enjoyed was the Skyward series by Brandon Sanderson

I've had Wheel of Time on my to-read pile for years. I just never get around to it because it's such a big series. I have enjoyed the Wheel of Time TV show on amazon.

Call me a nerd but I’ve enjoyed like every Sanderson book I’ve ever read

@Malachy I actually haven’t read that one yet either, but Sanderson is very good at that kind of Fantasy/Sci-fi stuff. I’d say his specialty is world-building and complex plot lines, every element in the story kind of crashes together at the very end in some epic climax. It’s really interesting what he comes up with

Did you read the recent unflattering Wired article about him? I thought it was pretty unfair. Authors are allowed to be boring! big names in a genre are allowed to be confident! He seemed like a nice guy and the reporter just did a hit piece on him for being... too nice? Boring?

Read Remains Of The Day, it’s a great book

Wow. You must really like reading.

It's really thanks to @jackho and his reading challenge threads. I've pushed myself to start reading for fun again the last few years. I went from maybe 1 or 2 books a year to 50+. I've always enjoyed the books I've read but it was never a habit I got into until I started participating in the challenges. Reading is now a part of my day just like some people sit down and watch some TV after work or school or before bed, I've been reading on my kindle. On my drive to work which is 45-60min each way I'll listen to an audiobook instead of NPR or a music station.
